Gum disease is a serious condition that can lead to tooth loss and other health problems. Fortunately, there are a number of home remedies that can help fight gum disease and keep your mouth healthy. We’ll go over some of them today.
Brush And Floss Everyday
One of the most important things you can do is to brush and floss your teeth every day. This will help remove plaque from your teeth and gums, and it will also help to prevent new plaque from forming.
Oil Pulling
One of the best home remedies for gum disease is oil pulling. Oil pulling is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil around in your mouth for several minutes each day. Traditionally, sesame oil has been used for oil pulling, but other types of oil can be used as well. This helps to remove bacteria and plaque from your teeth and gums. Coconut oil is a great option for oil pulling, as it has antibacterial properties. You can start by swishing for just 5 minutes a day and gradually increase the duration until you’re able to do it for a full 15–20 minutes. For best results, most recommend doing this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Another home remedy for gum disease is apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar can help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. According to Dr. Oz, it also works to remove stubborn tooth stains. Simply rinse your mouth with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. You can take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and mix it with one cup of distilled water. Store this for one week and use it as a mouthwash.
Tea Tree Oil
You can also try using tea tree oil to fight gum disease. Tea tree oil has natural antiseptic properties that can help kill bacteria. After brushing your teeth with your usual toothpaste, simply add a few drops of tea tree oil to your toothbrush and brush your teeth as usual.
Keep A Healthy Diet
Finally, be sure to eat a healthy diet. Stay away from sweets, especially sticky candy and carbonated drinks. Fill your diet with healthy probiotics, omega-3’s, collagen, vitamin C, fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and other vitamins and minerals. Some great foods to include in your diet are cacao, fatty fish, nuts and seeds, fermented foods such as kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut, and grass-fed beef. Drink plenty of water.
In addition to these tactics, make sure to see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings in order to help prevent and treat gum disease.
